Embrace Fall Colors and Say Bye to Post-Summer Depression!

Originally Published Oct 26, 2024Updated Oct 25, 2024

Dear readers, we’re going to start this article with a simple fact: summer is well and truly gone (our inner drama queen is thriving with this statement). As October draws to an end, so do the tenacious warm and sunny days that make the epilogue of the summer holidays more tolerable. With this sudden meteorological crash (we knew it was coming but no one will blame us for being a little delulu when it comes to sun rays and blue skies) most of us can be tricked into a “post-summer” blues. The days are getting shorter and shorter, the warm evenings spent outside looking at the starry sky now require the addition of heavy cable knit blankets to keep the cold away, and your pink lemonade drink has transformed into a warm and comforting brew (chai latte, we see you).

However, do you know what has finally settled in after this overdose of beach days, tanning afternoons and pina-colada parties? Fall (or autumn as our British friends like to call it)! This wondrous season brings us cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, fluffy cinnamon rolls, and, above all else, leaves getting dressed in their most fabulous color palette. Nothing screams “fall” better than witnessing the beauty of changing leaves when November knocks on the door.

Now, we know that when this time of the year comes around we would all love to hop on the Hogwarts Express and eat pumpkin pasties with the Harry Potter gang. However, if you are reading this, your Hogwarts letter might have gotten lost in the mail a few years ago – and so has ours. But do not be discouraged my little October Grinches, we have come up with the best strategy to stop missing summer and embrace the magic of this new period of the year, without any need for flying brooms and Gryffindor scarves.

Your four-step guide for the most demure and mindful adventure of your fall - a photographing leaves afternoon!

Step 1 - OOTD

Get dressed in your coziest sweater, warmest leggings and most comfortable hiking boots (or, let’s be real, that pair of battered old sneaks that you’ve been saving for an outdoorsy activity and haven’t touched in the past two years).

Step 2 - Road Trip

Drive to the forest closest to you. We are aware that for our city dwellers this might take a bit longer but, trust us, it is worth the drive. You can also bring along a friend, your dog or a family member, if your social battery allows it!

Step 3 - Cameras at the Ready

Take out your phone, or your camera if you have one (but in this day and age we all know how smartphones have become our best friends for quick and efficient photo shoots).

Step 4 - Get Into It

Look around you and find the prettiest leaves, the ones whose colors call to you and your inspiration, and start snaping those picta-worthy pics! Get lost in the blur of gold, honey and crimson surrounding you and voilà, summer blues is gone and fall frenzy has taken center stage.
