This New Autumn Decor Trend Gives Demure & Mindful Vibes

Originally Published Sep 06, 2024Updated Sep 17, 2024

As September rolls in and we say goodbye to all those great summer mems, habits are changing faster than the leaves! Maybe it’s in part because of our “back to school” yearly habits that date back to kindergarten? But I’m all about taking a “very mindful, very demure” approach this season, starting with my annual autumn redecor (think of it as your fall detox), inspired by Jools Lebron in her viral video.

My favorite fall project every year is, without doubt, my reorganization and redecoration to live my best autumn life! It makes saying goodbye to my favorite sundresses to create a vibe that's as cozy as my fave sweater! And this new home decor trend makes it even cozier, and dare I say … more demure?

What is the Gallery Wall trend?

The experts have spoken (yes, there are actual home decor experts!), gallery walls are here to stay! The perfect mix between adding your own personality to your wall and the possibility to swap out the art if your personal style changes means that there is a world of possibilities when it comes to gallery walls!

Curating your gallery wall doesn’t have to be a chore either. Choose your frame styles and sizes, from square to rectangle and whether you want them to be all nicely lined up on the wall (hello Type A vibes!) or more of an asymmetrical, “ I woke up like this” feel.

Then all that’s left is to add in your oh-so perfectly picked pics! (And then swap them out in a few months for a new season and a new vibe!)

Color Palette Ideas

For the cozy autumn months, I feel like those warm hues are the perfect way to bring some snuggly feels into my (sometimes freezing) apartment. I started with a photo I snapped while on a quick weekend trip last year with autumn leaves to start with and then added in some stock photos to really create that gallery vibe!

Or you can go in another trendy direction - monochrome, that timeless classic that also screams autumn! My friend recently added a black and white filter to her wedding gallery wall and her SoHo apartment looks, well, even more SoHo! It’s giving Hepburn.

Very Mindful, Very Demure

This gallery photo wall trend just screams (ok probably whispers), mindful and demure with the Intention behind each curated photo. Don’t just dive in and choose your pictures all will-nilly, these are the masterpieces behind your gallery wall!

When in doubt just think, WWTLD … What Would the Louvre Do? (Kidding! Ok, well half kidding). Your gallery wall is the chance to make your photos shine, so give them the chance to while reflecting on all those good memories that came from each shutter snap!

Are you reminiscing on your wedding day and that oh-so gorgeous gown? Channel that inner intention into your gallery wall and you’ll be feeling the love in no time, what better way to strengthen your relationship, not that it needed it! Or maybe you’re going all out autumn for this fall-themed gallery wall decor with photos of leaves and the fam enjoying the pumpkin patch!

How to Make Your Own Curated Gallery Wall

Alright, let’s get down to business, how do you actually go about creating your one-of-a-kind gallery wall to spice up, well, any room in your house?

  1. First things first, choose a room! Are you looking to add some photos into your living room wall, or want to keep your memories confined to the intimacy of your bedroom? Or, go big and get a dose of happiness every time you walk in your front door by creating a gallery wall in your entry way!
  2. Select your photos. Remember when we were all mindful and demure about selecting your favorite photos to create something special? Now’s the time to put it into place! Whether you’re choosing 4 or 10, make sure each photo really vibes with the energy and feeling you are trying to create!
  3. Buy frames. This next step requires you to head out and buy frames (I like to do this step before I choose my photo printing size) to make sure I get the frames in the colors I want. Again, the choice is really up to you, are you going for a dark frame for a moody look? Or are you doing some mis-matched frames in square and rectangle for a quirky feel?
  4. Print, print, print! It’s our favorite step, but then again, we are a photo printing company! Head to picta.com and print your photos to match the frame sizes you have already purchased. And did we mention, they are ready the same day?
  5. Lay it out. This optional step allows you to may out your photos in their frames on the floor to get a feel on spacing and layout, without the commitment of having them on your walls in this “draft” phase.
  6. Stick it to it, to the walls that is! Once you’re satisfied with your layout, now you have to attach your beautiful gallery wall to the wall. Whether you’re using Command strips for a damage-free way to display or you are a homeowner ok with nailing your frames in (lucky you), the most important is to make sure your frames stay on the wall! And are evenly spaced …

Transforming Your Space for Fall

Now to add in those final autumnal touches to really create a gallery wall that just oozes fall vibes …

Seasonal Accents and Textiles

I love to swap out my pillows and throws for the autumn colors, a warm orange blanket or some textured tan pillows really make my space seem even more cozy! Add in some cute fall decor like some pumpkins or leaves to add in a natural touch to your home as well.

Cozy knits like a cable-knit blanket or a velour pillowcase can also add some much-needed fuzzy textures into your room. And stick to the warm colors of fall, burnt umber, maroon, even more muted beiges and tans will do the job!

Lighting to Set the Mood

I am the first one to light a scented candle once the days start to shorten when I get home and I feel like candlelight adds the museum feel I am going for with my gallery wall! But if you aren’t into candles (or try battery-powered candled if you have pets or little ones running around), you can also add in some warm lightbulbs into your lamps for the same effect!
